Considering how much of a joke the response to covid in the US was, if US was as big and diverse as India, IMO the situation would have been equally bad / worse. My point is that no matter how advanced the nation is or how good the government is, I think the effect of that on the spread of the virus is minimal - what a good government / advanced nation can / should do is to at least be prepared with a coherent response, better medical facilities, better tracking etc.. - at least in the matter of vaccines, there was a coherent response initially when vaccines were being offered to people, but then no one wanted it ! So a lot of the blame lies with the people as much as with the government. And I think people know that too, I don't think there is a lot of 'government could have prevented this' thinking in this matter
